Annual Report of The Chandigarh Chapter of IRIA for the year 2025

The total membership strength of Chandigarh Chapter of IRIA as of now stands at 340 (E=9, LM=261 and PLM=70).  The current Executive Committee is headed by Dr. Kushaljit Singh Sodhi, as the President, Dr. Paramjeet Singh as President-Elect and Dr. Naveen Kalra as Immediate Past President.

The Chandigarh Chapter of IRIA organized its 13th Annual Conference at PGIMER, Chandigarh on 13th and 14th December 2025, which was attended by more than 350 delegates including postgraduate students, fellows and practicing radiologists from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Prof. Kushaljit Singh Sodhi, Professor, Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGIMER, Prof. Ajay Gulati, Secretary and Dr. Anmol Bhatia, Treasurer of the Chandigarh Chapter both from PGIMER. The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Sandeep Kavthale, The President elect of the National Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA). Dr. Pankaj Sharma from AIIMS, Rishikesh who is the Secretary General of National IRIA was the Guest of Honor.

The theme of the conference was “Radiology in practice 2025’’. The meeting was accredited for 7 CME Credit points by Haryana Medical Council. It was a very successful two-day meeting where eminent speakers included faculty from PGIMER & GMCH, Chandigarh, AIIMS Rishikesh, IGMC Shimla, DMC Ludhiana & SGRD Amritsar. There were live workshops conducted on Ultrasound elastography and Musculoskeletal Shoulder joint pathologies by experts in these fields. Scientific deliberations with didactic lectures and interactive case discussions were conducted by reputed national faculty who were experts in their fields. There were detailed discussions on Medico legal aspects in Radiology & Emerging Interventional Radiology techniques which can offer minimally invasive treatment for management in various clinical conditions. A spotter session in the memory of Late Dr. Hemant Patel was also conducted in which the postgraduate students participated actively with great interactive discussions with the faculty.

Three quarterly academic meetings were organized by the Chandigarh Chapter of IRIA during this year. First quarterly meeting of the chapter was held on 15th March 2025 at Hotel Western Court, Chandigarh. It was a theme-based meeting on “Updates in Ultrasound” which was focused on antenatal imaging, and latest advancements in the ultrasound. The highlight of the conference was an interactive panel discussion on the “latest updates in PC-PNDT act” in which local health authorities of DHS office, Chandigarh participated with great interactive discussion with the members. The meeting was accredited by Haryana Medical Council for 2 CME Credit points and was attended by record 170 delegates. The second quarterly meeting of the Chapter was organized on 14th June 2025 at Govt. Medical College and hospital Sector 32, Chandigarh. The theme of the meeting was “Musculoskeletal Imaging” and was attended by nearly 100 delegates. The third quarterly meeting of the Chapter was organized on 27th Sep 2025 at Command Hospital, Chandimandir. The theme of the meeting was “Recent advances including Artificial intelligence” and was attended by more than 100 delegates. In all these meetings, we had active participation by residents and fellows who presented presenting interesting cases.

Dr. Mahesh Prakash and Dr Rajiv Kapoor were nominated by our chapter for felicitation during the teacher’s day celebration by Central IRIA on 5th September 2025.

I am very happy to share with you that Members of our chapter have received many national and international awards, Honorary Memberships of societies, and have been elected in key positions in various societies.

Dr. Kushaljit Singh Sodhi was elected as the Vice-President of Asian Oceanic Society of Pediatric Radiology (AOSPR) and Secretary of World Federation of Pediatric Imaging for 2025.

Dr. Naveen Kalra was awarded a prestigious oration from the Society for Emergency Radiology for year 2025.

Dr. Ajay Kumar has been elected as President of Chd, PB & HP chapter of ISVIR. He has also been elected as the Gen Secretary ISNR

Dr. Mahesh Prakash has received honorary life membership of Indonesian Musculoskeletal Society in September 2025.

Dr. Sandhya Dhankhar has been awarded certificate of appreciation from national committee for her contribution for work on Samrakshan for year 2025 and also 5 Star award for Samrakshan in Kochi National Fetal Radiology Conclave held in Kochi 2025 for working as Samrakshan Yodha. 

Dr. Harish Bhujade has received Appreciation award of ISVIR for being the Best Reviewer of JCIR in their annual meeting in February 2025 and won first prize for E-poster (USG category) at Sonosummit 2025.

Many of our members are in the editorial board of national and international journals.

The Chandigarh Chapter was also very active at the Raksha front and conducted activities quarterly. Dr Shweta Goyal is working as convener of the Raksha initiative for the year 2025. First activity was conducted on 15th February 2025 in collaboration with an NGO Yuvsatta – Center to Empower Marginalized Girls at Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Chandigarh where schoolbags, stationery, and refreshments were distributed to nearly 80 teenage girls and underprivileged / poor school children. The Second activity was done on 2nd August 2025 at Don Bosco Church Sec 24 Chandigarh. The event was organized in collaboration with NGO ‘Humari Kaksha’ where school shoes were distributed to nearly 100 children along with sanitary supplies to teenage girls. Third activity was conducted on 26th September in collaboration with NGO ‘KANYA’ in Mohali where the EC and members of Raksha team distributed winter jackets to about more than 80 children. The Fourth activity was done on 20th December 2025 in collaboration with the NGO “DIR – Developing Indigenous Resources” where winter uniforms were distributed to nearly 70 children, along with the donation of essential medical supplies, reinforcing IRIA’s commitment to holistic community care.
